How to keep your jewelry looking beautiful for a long time

With just a little effort, your jewelry will retain its shine for years. These tips apply to gold and silver jewelry.

In daily life

  • Put on jewelry last: apply perfume, lotion, and hairspray first, then the jewelry.
  • Remove before sports, swimming, sauna, showering, and housework. Chlorine, salt water, and cleaning agents damage surfaces.
  • Always store chains closed and separately so they do not tangle or scratch each other.

Cleaning

  • Lukewarm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush are enough for most pieces of jewelry.
  • Rinse thoroughly afterward and dry completely with a soft cloth.
  • For silver, a silver polishing cloth is additionally recommended.

Why silver tarnishes

925 sterling silver reacts with sulfur compounds in the air and on the skin, causing it to darken over time. This is not a material defect and can be removed with a silver polishing cloth. Wearing it regularly and storing it in a dry, airtight place slows down tarnishing.

Storage

Store your jewelry in a dry, dark, and separate place, ideally in a case or a soft pouch.
